Responsibilities of Senior UNIX Systems Administrator:
Provide senior systems and networking expertise to the infrastructure team
Help ensure 24/7 availability of key services and infrastructure in our production Linux environment
Respond to after hours emergencies and lead the resolution process
Research and make hardware/software purchases, maintain key vendor relationships
Research and implement new systems management technologies and practices
Develop internal documentation for key systems and services
Requirements for Senior UNIX Systems Administrator:
5+ years experience with UNIX systems administration, with the 2 most recent years being Linux
BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience is required
Guru-level systems and networking expertise (strace/gdb debugging, custom kernels, various firewalls and load balancers, IDS)
Extensive experience with standard Linux/UNIX daemons (apache, ssh, cron, bind, ldap)
Experience writing custom init scripts and manipulating services at various runlevels
Extensive experience with more advanced Linux networking concepts (bridging, iptables, iproute2, RIP)
LDAP administration (including automount NFS home directories, access control, and custom schema) experience
Strong experience with major scripting languages (shell, Perl, Python)
Demonstrated deep understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts
Understanding of configuration management concepts and tools (bcfg2, cfengine, puppet)
Ability to diagnose complex networking issues using standard tools (tcpdump, ethereal, iptraf, mrtg)
Strong understanding of SAN storage systems and administration concepts
Recent experience handling on-call duties in a critical production datacenter
Specific experience with Redhat or SuSE a very strong plus
Experience with Solaris (specifically on x86 hardware) a plus
Familiarity with ITIL best practices and ITIL certification a plus
